Solynta is a young seed company that develops and implements hybrid breeding technology in diploid potato. This technology will accelerate the development of innovative potato varieties, with true seed as starting material. We have a position open for a:
Digital phenotyping data analyst (MSc/PhD)
For our selections on plants and on tubers we are looking for possibilities to use digital phenotyping methods for improving the data collection. You are a person that determines the best way to phenotype different traits, and that calibrates digital phenotyping data with actual plant measurements. You have experience in image analysis, machine learning and crop modelling. The goal of this position is to develop methods of digital phenotyping to a tool that breeders can use to make selections.
Key activities / responsibilities
- Image analysis of plants and plant material
- Processing of raw data into interpretable information
- Correlation of digital phenotyping data to plant traits
- Develop new digital phenotyping methods
- Close collaboration with breeders, agronomists, scientific software engineers and data engineers
Requirements
- An MSc in biosystems engineering or similar with an applied remote sensing component
- Proficiency in traditional and deep-learning-based computer vision and image analysis for plant growth measurement
- Working knowledge of contemporary statistical learning methods and tools
- Programming skills with expertise in R, Python or other statistical software
- including traditional statistical analysis and machine learning
- A good command of geospatial data analysis and visualization methods
- Experience with digital phenotyping techniques
- Knowledge of the spectral properties of plants and their relations to plant growth processes
- Interest to translate science into a usable product
- Ability to work closely together with diverse people
